Sixth Form students take artistic inspiration from London Galleries

Sixth Form students travelled to London last week, to draw inspiration from the London galleries and to enjoy the festive sights of the Capital.
58 students studying Fine Art, Photography, Graphics and 3D Art A levels went on the art trip in order to develop their artistic ideas in response to the work of others, and to experience the opportunity to engage first hand with a wide range of artworks and photography at the Tate Modern and the Tate Britain.
Ahead of the trip, students were encouraged to research and plan projects relating to the artworks and architecture they would see in order to develop their portfolio of coursework.
Mr Taylor, Head of Art and Design, said; “It was amazing to be able to take our Sixth Form students back to London. The streets and architecture alone provided a huge amount of inspiration and visual stimulus. Students were particularly taken with the massive multimedia installation at Tate Britain with some getting great shots interacting with the lights and images."
"Personally, I enjoyed seeing and discussing the work of Gerhard Richter and Cildo Meireles. Many of the students will now use a huge amount of imagery and inspiration from this trip in their portfolios which is fantastic to see.”

Graphics student, Harriet, said; “I really enjoyed opening all the drawers in the Mark Dion piece at Tate Modern and the building itself is amazing”. Fine Art student, Molly, said; “My favourite work was the figure sculptures by Henry Moore and the working drawings to show how he developed his ideas” and Photography students, Stan and Dylan, took a host of interesting shots of shadows and light trails throughout the trip.
